Cagliari vs Juventus : Preview and Predictions
Fresh off their Coppa Italia win against Torino, Juventus will hope to head into Serie A’s winter break with another victory in hand as they travel to face Cagliari.
Although the Rossoblu beat Atalanta in their last game of 2017, it marked their first win since narrowly beating Udinese on November 19th. Cagliari had then picked up just two points from their ensuring five fixtures prior to that victory, and they’re expected to struggle against a Juventus side who are finally up and running.
Even during the earlier part of the season, when Massimiliano Allegri’s men had yet to fully find their footing, they still cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over the Sardinians on matchday one. Furthermore, they have a very strong record against Cagliari. La Vecchia Signora have won their last six away fixtures versus the Rossoblu, and in fact Cagliari haven’t beaten Juve at this ground since 2009 – when their current coach Diego Lopez was still playing for the side.
Furthermore, Juventus have now won their last five games across all competitions, with clean sheets in all but one of their last ten games – also across all competitions, which clearly shows that they have vastly improved in defense after a shaky start. With 48 goals scored so far, they’re the highest scoring side in the league – even ahead of high-flying Napoli, who sit just one point ahead of them in the table, and have conceded just 15 goals, with only Roma, the Partenopei, and Inter having done better.
Gonzalo Higuain in particular really seems to enjoy playing against the Rossoblu, with six goals and one assist from his six prior meetings with the Sardinians. Don’t be surprised, then if he adds more to his tally especially considering that Cagliari have managed to keep just three clean sheets all season.
