Hellas Verona vs AC Milan: Preview and Prediction
It’s part two of an interesting double-header of sorts as AC Milan lock horns with Hellas Verona for the second time in a week.
The Rossoneri swept aside the floundering Gialloblu 3-0 in a relatively comfortable Coppa Italia win midweek and will be looking to heap more misery on the relegation candidates. That marked the second straight win across all competitions for new coach Gennaro Gattuso and Milan will be desperate to start closing ground on some of the other sides as they aim to at least secure some kind of European spot.
Milan’s last trip to a bottom three side, however, did not turn out as planned, as they conceded a shock late equalizer to gift Benevento their first ever Serie A point. They now take on an opponent who have won just one game at home all season. That was against Benevento, and it was hardly a convincing result as they labored to a 1-0 victory.
That being said, Milan have been hardly convincing themselves, albeit they have shown some signs of improvement as of late. Whether that is just a result of appointing yet another manager or something for the long-term remains to be seen, but Hellas Verona come into this game having lost their last three home fixtures. As such, the Diavolo will obviously be fancying their chances here after their victory earlier this week.
Nonetheless, although Hellas Verona aren’t picking up points, they are at least scoring on home turf. Milan have yet to sort out their defensive issues – notably conceding that shock equalizer against Benevento in their last road fixture – and that is something that the Gialloblu will be desperate to exploit. However, Verona themselves had a 2-0 lead against SPAL and threw that away to settle for a 2-2 draw, showing that they also obviously have plenty of issues of their own heading into this match.
Verona vs AC Milan: Prediction
Given that Verona have managed to score in five of their last six games and Milan have conceded in the majority of their away fixtures (12 of their last 14 on the road), the hosts may be able to nick a goal here.
There will be concerns of course about Gianluigi Donnarumma’s overall state following the 18-year-old being reduced to tears after fans took umbrage to his loudmouth agent, Mino Raiola, stirring the pot yet again, but he’s expected to feature nonetheless.
All things considered, the Diavolo are obviously a much stronger side and should be able to take all three points.
